Paige Bueckers Dominates Again as Wings Capture Fifth Straight Win

In a comeback that came down to the final few minutes, the Dallas Wings win their fifth straight game in a 96-91 victory against the Chicago Sky.

The Wings Soar Past the Sky

Breaking Down the Fifth Straight Win

On a heater and hungry for more, the Dallas Wings have proved doubters wrong in numerous ways. Whether it's through their 15 wins and 4-game win streak (both prior to this matchup) or the chemistry that they have formed in so little time, the Wings have turned around the trajectory of their once falling franchise. Entering this matchup with the Chicago Sky with not just a target on their back, but a chip on their shoulder, the Dallas Wings were ready. Although the Sky controlled majority of this matchup with another career performance from undrafted rookie, Sydney Taylor, the Wings were able to collect themselves and prevail in crunch time. Although Dallas' Jessica Shepard was doing her thing and even put up a 19-point 10-rebound double-double, the Wings' ability to shoot was a struggle early. Losing the lead midway through the third quarter, many thought that Dallas' chances to get it back were essentially gone with Azura Stevens and Kamilla Cardoso continuing to pound the paint. That said, the Wings' defense flourished late in the game lead by 3 steals from Azzi Fudd as well as some clutch buckets from Azzi Fudd, Maddy Siegrist, and Arike Ogunbowle. Receiving absolute dimes from Paige Bueckers to see their scoring succeed was Ogunbowale with 17 points and Fudd with 16 points. With Paige Bueckers flourishing in her own scoring as well as passing, opportunities for players like Azzi Fudd, Maddy Siegrist, and even Li Yeuru opened at the perfect time as the Wings tied the game with just over 3 minutes remaining in the matchup. As the Wings held on with a 96-91 victory, it was Paige Bueckers who held the team together despite four of Chicago's starters scoring in double-figures.

Another Night, Another Elite Performance from Bueckers

In any matchup, Paige Bueckers is a name you can't ignore and certainly not one to ignore considering the run she's on. Although the Chicago Sky were able to prevent Bueckers from any major scoring runs, her impact on the Wing's win was undeniable. To start this matchup, Paige Bueckers was thriving off of creating shots for her teammates as she already recorded 5 assists in the first quarter along with 5 points of her own. Being the selfless floor general that she is, Bueckers doesn't mind this style of play as it gets the job done. While Bueckers would continue to play consistently with 7 points in the second quarter and just 2 points and 1 assist in the third, it was the fourth quarter that Paige Bueckers came alive. Helping lead her team to yet another win, Bueckers would put up a 22-point 6-rebound 11-assist double-double to not only keep the Wings' win streak going but also continue to display her dominance.

Bueckers' Spectacular Season Has Exceeded Expectations

Paige Bueckers' sophomore season was obviously going to be a hit, but the run she is on is like no other. The past 8 games for Bueckers have been nothing short of successful as she has led the Wings to winning 6 of those 8 games while also seeing herself excel. It is in this 8-game stretch that Bueckers is averaging 24.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game. Each of these stats are career high averages for Bueckers and exceed her season averages. While Bueckers' averages in this run do eclipse that of her season averages, Bueckers' season averages are still MVP-caliber stats. In just her second WNBA season, Bueckers averages 20.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game all while shooting 51.6% from the field, 38.1% from three, and 86.7% from the charity stripe. Considering the hot streak that Bueckers is on, she could very well continue to increase her season averages while also increasing her stocks in the MVP race. Although bigtime sources and analysts such as Sports Illustrated still place A'ja Wilson at -330 odds of winning 2026 WNBA MVP, Paige Bueckers lands second in their list at +880 odds. Despite the notable gap between the two, the fact that Paige Bueckers is in the MVP talks and even placed at second on numerous lists at just 24 years old says enough and proves that she deserves more attention and respect.

The Road Ahead for Dallas

Looking to continue this win streak, the Dallas Wings find themselves with two more home games left in their homestand. On July 16, 2026, the Wings will face the New York Liberty for what will be the third and final time this season. Considering that the Dallas Wings have won both of their two matchups with the New York Liberty this season, it will be interesting to see how their final regular season meeting plays out. Following their contest with the Liberty, the Wings will take on the Los Angeles Sparks on July 19, 2026. As the Sparks continue to navigate playing without 5x All-Star Kelsey Plum, the Wings should have a slight advantage if at full strength themselves. Will the Wings continue their success and winning surge, or will a future opponent end their run?
